Dressing tools - Single-Point DressersSingle-point dressers: These are used to dress abrasive grinding wheels without the need for subsequent operations. Generally, these are natural diamond stones mounted on a substrate with a shape which will depend on the dressing tool being used. The pomdi nomenclature is HDM. Stone size should be calculated so that it is capable of absorbing the heat given off by the abrasive wheel being dressed. For this purpose, pomdi has produced a set of tables used to estimate diamond weight (measured in carats), taking into account the technical and geometric parameters of the wheel to be dressed. This makes it possible to obtain the total Q value by adding up the individual Q values according to the abrasive wheel's characteristics. To use the single-point diamond dressing tool, first attach the base to the grinder support. This is normally inclined at an angle of 10º to 15º to the dressing surface.. The diamond dresses the wheel by working on the cutting edges, since it is these points that have the most strength. Once this edge is smoothed, it is turned to find other edges, trying to keep the minimum surface area in contact with the grinding wheel. Once the point and the cutting edges are smoothed, the diamond can be reset and a new, second point fitted. Users are recommended to cool abrasive wheels during dressing. Nevertheless, abrasive wheels can also be dry dressed, but users should avoid cooling once the operation has begun, since the subsequent thermal shock can cause cracking and even breakage of the diamond. Dressing tools- Chisel-Type Diamond DressersUsed to dress and/or profile abrasive wheels with various shapes. The pomdi nomenclature is For this task, the user should cut the diamond, generally at an angle and radius to the vertex, centring it on its axis. This enables the user to shape profiles on abrasive wheels, using the tool as a pantograph and maintaining the same point of tangency throughout its travel. The most compact diamonds are used in manufacture of these tools. One of their applications is as hardness-indenter diamonds used to check hardness. Dressing tools - Impregnated Diamond DressersUsed to grind flat surfaces that are undemanding as regards finish quality and precision. The pomdi nomenclature is HDCP. Impregnated Diamond Dressers HDCP code tableThis type of HDCP agglomerate can also be produced as a "blade" type. It is very important to specify the grain of the grinding wheel to dress so as to adapt the diamond grain to be used according to the following references: Eq. table Grinding wheel grain - Diamond grainDressing tools - Multipoint Diamond Dressers (Needles)HDCS: Used to dress 36-grain grinding wheels or coarser. These are very resistant tools used for flat dressing. They permit deep passes on wide grinding wheels and are specially recommended for centreless grinding machines. HDPH: These are used to dress medium- and fine-grain grinding wheels used for both flat and profile grinding. This tool type achieves a better finish than HDCS. This type of HDPH agglomerate can also be produced as a blade type. HDPM: Used to dress straight wheels manually. Especially recommended for machines that do not have a dressing device. |
